Notater:
- **Starting planet:** Orbits the star Vela.
- **Extinct races:**
- **The Precursors:** Suddenly appeared and spread widely throughout the galaxy roughly 200,000 years ago, then suddenly disappeared in the span of a decade 3000 years later. Signs of their presence are found all over, including in the solar system. Once the Ur-Quan had one the war against the alliance, they destroyed from orbit all man-made structures older than 500 years old, including possibly undiscovered artefacts deep beneath the Antarctic ice and on the Atlantic ocean floor. Could hidden communications and technology from the Precursors be what they were fearing?
- **Unknown historical race:** Formed an interstellar empire roughly 22,000 years ago «not too far from here» (says the Starbase Commander).
- **Unknown historical rock creatures:** Lived as part of the aforementioned empire in the Vulpeculae constellation, which today houses hostile Androsynth.
- **The Hierarchy:** The Ur-Quan and their subjucates.
- **Ur-Quan:** Evil overlords. Goal is to enslave—not destroy—all intelligent life in the galaxy. They never stay in one place longer than what it takes to enslave the local species.
- **The Mycon:** Local to the Brahe constellation, they are the only species to actively seek out the Ur-Quan in order to become combat slaves. No human has any had a real conversation with one, but their corpses have a nasty habit of coming back to life. Thrives in temperatures close to the melting point of lead.
- **The Spathi:** green insect-like things that formed part of the Earth imprisonment.
- We have met **Fwiffo**, a member of the race currently stationed on Pluto. (He says of their ships typically holds 30 specimens, but Fwiffo is in fact alone, as the rest have gone back to their home planet to defend against a possible attack from a race called **The Ultimate Evil:** The Spathi’s greatest fear; probably superstition.)
- Fwiffo has agreed to join our alliance!
- «Imagine facing a cowardly, mobile clam armed with a howitzer and you’ve got a good idea of what it’s like dealing with a Spathi.»
- Starbase Commander.
He also tells of a rumour of rogue Spathi group called the «Black Spathi Squadron», with black-and-red-striped ships, dedicated to performing brave and hostile deeds. Expect to meet these later.
- **The Umgah:** Big blob creatures native to the Orionis constellation, fell early in the war with the Ur-Quan. They were eager to talk with our spaceships before, during, and after the battle. The Arilou have said they had relations with the Umgah before their fall.
- **The Androsynth:** Their hit-and-run squadron is to be feared. Staying clear of their home star – Eta Vulpeculae – is adviced. Hates humanity, as two generations ago they were kept as human slaves for nearly fifty years. (Are these computers? GPT??)
- **The Ilwrath:** Spider-like creatures worshipping Dogar and Kazon, the twin gods of destruction and torment. «Their Avenger ships could appear out of nowhere and melt a Cruiser down to slag in seconds.» Former «backbone» of Earthguard on behalf of the Ur-Quan, but left the system 18 years ago, soon after the Ur-Quan left, due to apparently growing bored and wanting to find stuff to torture and kill (they claimed it was a direct order from their gods).
- **The VUX:** Native to the Luyten star group. Human starship encountered the VUX near Beta Mire, and somehow offended their starship captain with an inadvertant insult.
- **The Old Alliance:** the alliance of alien species standing against the Ur-Quan in the war.
- **The Shofixti:** Newly civilized society discovered by the Yehat in the Delta Gorno star system, who adopted and uplifted them. Noble and fearless warriors, with an «incredible» fecundity and rapid maturation rate. Their ships have a «glory device» attached to their hull, presumably a bomb to be set of in the event of a losing battle.
- **The Yehat:** Ancient warrior clans that have been travelling the stars for centuries. The clans are highly competitive, but all are loyal to the Queen and her royal family, the Veep-Zeeps, who have ruled for over two millennia.
- **The Ariloulaleelay (aka Arilou):** The sci-fi trope aliens, who had a habit of abducting people in UFOs and physically examining/modifying them with probes. «We never got a chance to confront the Ariloulaleelay about what they did to us and why. I wonder if we ever will?» — Starbase Commander**.** Gives the Starbase Commander the creeps, and their timing, entering the solar system to ask admittance into the alliance just as it had been founded, «seemed unusual». Possesses some advanced technology to move their starships with high speeds across hyperspace.
- **The Chenjesu:** Informal leaders of the old alliance. Silicon-based biology with «fantastic intellects». «I’d rather be taking orders from a Chenjesu than any other life form, absolutely.» SB Commander. Never used hyperwave communicators, as they could send messages «naturally».
- **The Mrnmhrm:** Mechanical beings, a product of a distant, unknown culture who sent a giant Factory-Ark (dubbed the Mother-Ark by human media) into our region of space centuries ago, which churned out millions of robots before breaking down. Unknown whether they have the will or ability to repair the Ark, but in either case it remains dysfunctional. The SBC speculates that they are the leading edge of a colonization project, and that the genuine colonists will one day appear to claim their due.
- **The Syreen:** «Space Gypsies», according to SBC, with vast fleets of slow moving habitats. Apparently human recruits find them hot? «But they are far more than simple joy units» –SBC. Established and maintained a peaceful culture for most of their history, before their planet was destroyed in a horrible cataclysm. «An eden.» –SBC.
- **Other races:**
- **Rumoured:** The Chenjesu said they had encountered two other spacefaring species, one **near the Giclas constellation**, and the other **directly coreward from Procyon**. The Arilou said they had «some fun» with an alien species **in Draconis.**
- **Melnorme:** Traders encountered in Alpha Centauri. «Our origins and purposes are, frankly, mysterious and due to several unavoidable factors we are unable to discuss ourselves in any great detail.» (They aren’t willing to give away any information, but they are willing to sell it.) Primary trade good is information. To trade with them, you must provide: biological data on alien lifeforms, and/or the coordinates of certain strange worlds whose radiant energies defy all scanners producing a rainbow-like image. Due to predictions of an upcoming bad fate, will leave this region of space in February 2159.
- **Zoq-Fot-Pik:** encountered in Rigel, a trio of varied and strange-looking creatures, claim to be a scout vessel, hailing from the green dwarf star at coordinates 400.0, 543.7. Four species, the Zoq, the Fot, the Pik, and the Zebranky evolved intelligence simultaneously. These three species were being hunted and eaten by the fourth, the Zebranky, and thus banded together in order to survive. Their home planets are under attack from invading hordes of aliens, who apparently shoot at each other while battling low in gravity wells: all their colonies have perished from their stray shots, but the invading horde have yet to find their home planet. The opposing sides have huge green battleships, and black spaceships with strange writing covering their hulls, respectively. The Zoq-Fot-Pik refer to the «Crystol One(s)», who were apparently once part of the Old Alliance. Someone they worship? Have asked me to speak with their leaders, and urges me to travel to the system Alpha Tucanae(?). Their home planet is the one closest to the sun.

Stuff to check out:
- «We are being bathed in broad-beam hyperwave transmission from the direction of the Rigel star system. Due to the broadcast’s wide dispersion we cannot discern its content.»
- Discover who is creating the hostile probes, and stop them from creating any more.
«Very Young Orangutangs Could Grow Bananas, Perhaps Rather Well» — miner mnemonic to remember colour sequence from most to least plentiful planets. Mineral yields are also better at hotter stars, with star colours from cold to hot being red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and white.
